Energy – what is it?

What is Energy? Energy is all around us. In fact, we are all made up of energy and it’s everything that we can see, hear, touch, smell and taste. We know that objects are made up of particles called atoms, which are made up of smaller components – all of which are in constant motion.

Given these “scientific facts”, is it so hard to believe that energy (everything) is interconnected and can affect everything that exists? Quantum physics has proven that it does.

The things that influence us the most often cannot be seen. But just because we can’t “see” something doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist.  For example, our thoughts and emotions impact nearly everything we do, every second of the day, despite not being able to “see” them.  But we know that they exist.  The process of electricity is a commodity that, under two hundred years ago  wasn’t discovered.  However, it always existed.  We just needed the technology and know-how to produce electricity using wires and circuits.  But imagine what someone would have said about the first person to claim that they could put light in a bulb.

In the medical world, it’s been discovered that the human body, as well as it’s organs, produce a bio magnetic (or electro-magnetic) field. In fact, Kirlian photography was discovered in 1939 by Semyon Davidovitch Kirlian, where he invented a method of capturing on film, the human aura. He believed that the images showed a life force or energy field that reflected the physical and emotional states of living subjects, and could be used to diagnose illnesses.

The application of electric and magnetic fields in order to stimulate healing has been comprehensively explored.  The most effective form of application has been pulsating magnetic fields – a phenomenon that has been shown to be emitted from the human hand under certain conditions. (Thus giving tentative scientific plausibility to the “healing hands” practice of energy manipulation – indication that an energy transfer mechanism between healer and client actually exists and is, under the right conditions, scientifically measurable.

The world is realising that the rate of technology has advanced and accelerated, but at the expense of our health – physically, emotionally and mentally.  Our eating habits have already started to revert to the “back to basics” approach of eating fresh meat and produce.  Organic foods often have more beneficial nutrients, such as antioxidants, than their conventionally-grown counterparts and people with allergies to foods, chemicals, or preservatives often find their symptoms lessen or go away when they eat only organic foods.

Similarly, the concept of energy is not something new, but has existed since the beginning of time. Virtually every ancient civilisation in the world has used, or continues to use, energy healing.  Ayerveda from India, Qi Gong from China, Reiki from Japan, Sekhem from Egypt – the list goes on. All of these ancient techniques help the body to heal itself and treat the causes of illnesses and conditions, not just the symptoms.

I’m not debating the importance of modern medicine and the positive significant impacts that it has on the human race.  However, there equally is an importance in more “back to basics” and natural therapies that exist within our own systems that have been lost with the evolution of  modern medicine.
